Ed Sheeran - You need me now, I don't need you

Ed Sheeran is a solo artist and songwriter who is now signed to Asylum/Atlantic records. He grew his name on his own and once performed 312 gigs in a single year to promote himself and on his own released a single 'The A Team' which reached number 2 in the iTunes charts. This hip hop soul music combines a dance element with conscious driven lyrics with meanings related to real life. This song uses the dance element by having a dancer in a studio doing fast hand movements which tell a physical narrative to the song lyrics to reflect their meanings with the bright colours you see in pop and R&B stripped back to focus more on the performance element. The lighting in this video is essential to the way the lyrics are put across and interpreted to the audience with good meanings and pictures brightened to re enforce that idea and less lighting for the rest of the song. Also, the lighting is constantly beating to the beat of the song to keep focusing viewers eyes and keep them interested making the video more aesthetically pleasing. The connotations of the song name are reflected through the singer or dance being alone in a studio singing in the dark about needing no one to get where they want to be doing it all alone.Flashes of Ed Sheeran appear in the video to give a performance based element and the rest of the video if flashes of pictures to follow lyrics as their said an there is one piece of choreographed dancing with three men half way through which shows another dance element, drawing on a hip hop genre.
This is one of the few glimpses of Ed Sheeran (artist) that we get, this shows the meaning behind the song of him not stopping till his name in lights and here he isn't. Dark lighting with the only light being on his guitar- the way in which he will get his name in lights and become known. This is also conveying the performance element of the video which fans love to see of their favourite stars.
This is Mathhew Morgan, a 17 year old man who is in darkness to show the lack of importance of him and place emphasis on the lighting which is the most light in the video except picture 5. The line to match this clip is 'I write my own verse' with the lighting showing that it's not the dancer who did it taking focus off him. Morgan points up to the lighting and lets Sheeran sing this bit without actions letting the lighting tell the narrative. The un importance of clothing and costumes in this video is apparent as the dark effect on the characters doesn't allow any brands to be shown keeping a focus on the music.

This clip fits with a line saying 'When I perform live feels like I am meditating' which clearly re enforces the religious nature of the word meditating juxtaposed next to the image of a religious god. The light around the statue shows the good behind praying and shows the positivity to praying reflecting it positively.
'Names up in lights' goes with this line to show that the lit up screen connotes the advantage of having your name up in lights which the performer is in whilst acting out this line. This shot also maintains the black and white theme and strips back all colour to emphasize the messages behind the lyrics and re enforce any pictures or props we see.
This reflects Ed Sheerans influence from a vast array of genres, this one being the more hip hop street dance choreographed dancing of three men who appear briefly to portray the less heavily influential lines with meanings and adds a more aesthetically pleasing element to the video to break up the hand movements for a narrative. Also the shadows of the dancers are visible in this shot to show that the dancers are in the shadows of the meaning in this video and dont portray the lyrics and aren't in as much spotlight or focus.
